COMMISSION ON MISSING AND EXPLOITED CHILDREN - Public Service Announcement

Issued: March 1, 2005

60 Seconds PSA # 118

The Memphis-based Commission on Missing & Exploited Children wants you young ladies and young men to know about the new Tennessee Safe Haven Law. It provides a way for you to see that your baby is safe when born if you are unable to care for it. You don’t need to put the infant at risk by dropping it off by the roadside, in a field or a trash can.

Just take the infant within 72 hours of its birth to any hospital, a birthing center, a community health center, or an outpatient walk-in clinic. You can safely leave the child there and you will not face prosecution. The law requires them to do everything necessary to protect the child’s health and safety.

If you’d like to talk to someone about this, call the Commission on Missing and Exploited Children at 405-8441. We’ll refer you to the right people. You won’t get in trouble. You will get help. Call us at 405-8441. That’s 4 0 5 - 8 4 4 1 .
